Have used Westwood shutters for a few years, very friendly, and a fantastic customer service. The motor to the front entrance shutter to school broke, they were here within an hour, cut open the shutter and everybody got into school on time. I highly recommend Westwood to everybody for any roller shutter work.

About Watford

Watford, located in Hertfordshire, UK, is a vibrant town known for its rich historical heritage, diverse commercial activity, active sporting community, and lively cultural scene.

Historical Make-up

Watford’s history dates back to Saxon times, with its name possibly derived from “Wat’s ford,” referring to a ford across the River Colne. The town grew as a market centre in the medieval period, and the construction of the Grand Union Canal in the early 19th century further boosted its development. Watford’s growth was significantly influenced by the arrival of the railway in 1837, transforming it into a bustling commuter town. The town’s Victorian and Edwardian architecture reflects its expansion during the industrial era.

Commercial and Business Activity

Today, Watford boasts a diverse and thriving economy. The town is a significant commercial hub, with the Intu Watford shopping centre offering a wide range of high-street brands, boutiques, and dining options. Watford High Street is another key retail area, featuring a mix of independent shops and well-known chains.

Watford’s strategic location near London and its excellent transport links, including the M1 and M25 motorways and a direct rail line to London Euston, make it an attractive base for businesses. The town is home to the headquarters of several major companies, including Camelot Group (operator of the National Lottery) and TJX Europe (owner of TK Maxx). Watford’s business parks, such as Croxley Business Park, house a variety of enterprises in sectors like technology, finance, and media.

Sporting Activities and Local Sports Clubs

Sport is an integral part of Watford’s community life. The town is home to Watford FC, known as “The Hornets,” which competes in the English Football League Championship. The club plays its home matches at Vicarage Road Stadium, drawing passionate local support.

Rugby is also popular, with clubs like Fullerians RFC providing opportunities for players of all ages. Cricket enthusiasts can follow matches at the Watford Town Cricket Club, which offers facilities for competitive and recreational play.

Watford offers excellent facilities for athletics, swimming, and other sports. The Watford Leisure Centre Central and Woodside Leisure Centre provide comprehensive amenities, including swimming pools, gyms, and sports courts. Additionally, Cassiobury Park, one of the largest public parks in Hertfordshire, offers extensive grounds for running, cycling, and outdoor sports.

Tourist Attractions

Watford offers a range of attractions that reflect its cultural and historical heritage. The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is a major draw, providing an immersive behind-the-scenes look at the Harry Potter films. Cassiobury Park, with its beautiful gardens, playgrounds, and nature reserve, offers a scenic escape for families and nature lovers. The park also features a popular paddling pool and the Cassiobury Park Miniature Railway.

Watford’s nightlife is lively and varied, catering to a range of tastes. The town centre features numerous pubs, bars, and restaurants, offering a mix of traditional and modern options. Popular venues include The Flag, known for its live music, and The Florist, offering stylish dining and cocktails.
